Encyclopedia : R : RI : RIC : Ricky Bones
Ricardo "Ricky" Bones (pronounced: BOH-ness), (born April 7 1969 in Salinas, Puerto Rico) was a Major League Baseball player who had a 10 year career from 1991 to 2001. He played for the San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds and Florida Marlins all of the National League and the Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals, New York Yankees, and Baltimore Orioles all of the American League.
He was elected to the American League All-Star team in 1994, but did not play in the game.
Ricky Bones is arguably one of the most influential pitchers from Salinas. Salinas known as a baseball factory has had many successful players, but the way that Ricky was able to dominate left-handed batters with his flowing mane of hair, transcended the region.
Ricky was featured on a very limited edition "Gold Rush" baseball card, that is both rare, and very expensive.
