Rimstone pool

Rimstone pools are areas where water was collected and sometimes form curious miniture 'cities'. When water pools, calcium bi carbonate (dissolved limestone) will float on top. By surface tension and movement, the calcite rafts together and form walls at waters rim. When water level is low, the calcite is unable to reach the walls and is left on the floor as water sinks below.
