Because of the worldwide popularity of the French and Italian Rivieras, it has become fashionable to attach the term "Riviera" to many scenic strands of coastland, particularly semitropical or tropical, and usually with an eye to tourism. Other places designated as "Riviera" include:

- Rockaway Beach, Queens, the "Irish Riviera"
- The South Shore of Massachusetts, known as the "Irish Riviera" due to being settled by Boston Irish who got wealthy
- The Emerald Coast region of Florida is commonly called the "Redneck Riviera"
