RoMak & the Space Pirates

After manifesting in 2003 as a local curiosity, RoMak & the Space Pirates quickly became known for their uniquely captivating sound and image. Since then they have been recognized as emerging leaders in the expanding electronic music scene, winning both the Best Electronic Artist Orange County Music Award and the Rock City Music award for Outstanding Newwave Band. Musically and visually, the band is a giant trend blender of pop-culture swirled around, mashed down and pureed into something completely different, yet comfortably familiar. They combine sonically delicious synth hooks and hard-hitting beats with Broadway-inspired vocals. Incorporating influences ranging from 80’s electro-clash to 1930’s jazz/swing (and everything in between) RoMak & the Space Pirates have crafted a signature sound that is accessible, infectious, versatile and smart.

RATSP brings imagination back to the world with their abstract-retro image and conceptual, story-telling lyrics. Rather than discarding the past like icons of previous generations, RoMak & the Space Pirates seek guidance and inspiration from it, all the while pushing forward and forging their own path. Many of their songs deal with the fickle side of human nature, and it’s relevance to pop-culture. This is all summed up with their motto, “Even the future becomes the past”. They strike a chord with even the most alienated of audiences and appeal to a widespread fan base of electro kids, rockers, Goths, punks, mods, etc.

After the independent release of their first EP, The Long Walk in early 2005, RoMak & the Space Pirates distributed CDs themselves to minor and major record stores across their LA/Orange County demographic with pleasing results. Aided by avid press and online promotion, they have shown amazing potential for widespread success by extending their musical branches all over the United States, UK and Canada.

In February of 2006 the band released a promo entitled: The Universe is Too SMALL, containing demo tracks of singles to be considered for the full length record: Attack of the Has-Been Androids. Numerous copies of this demo have been sent to labels, radio and press. The band is also touring to support it. The LP to follow will be loaded with their most engaging material yet, defining themselves to the rest of the world as a force to be reckoned with.
