Encyclopedia : R : RO : ROB : Robert A. Heinlein's Variable Star

Plot

In the late 23rd century, eighteen-year-old Joel Johnston flees a broken heart and the enmity of the world's richest man by boarding a 20-year-long sublight expedition to a distant star. And then the worst possible disaster strikes...

The book is set in a somewhat divergent offshoot of Heinlein's Future History, roughly during the time-period of Methuselah's Children.
