Rocket Boys

Rocket Boys is the original name of Homer 'Sonny' Hickam Jr.'s memoirs, first published in 1998. This book was later made into the movie October Sky (an anagram of "Rocket Boys"), and subsequent editions of the book were published with this name. The book describes the experiences of Hickam's childhood and his struggles to overcome a strong football tradition, to finally excel in science and space. Together with friends Billy, Sherman, O'Dell, Quentin, and Roy Lee, Homer attempts to build rockets and launch them into space.

This book is the first in what would eventually be known as the "Coalwood Trilogy". Hickam followed up with The Coalwood Way and Sky of Stone.

Other uses of the name

In the Anime BECK, Rocket Boys is referred to as an English Rock Band in the Beatles' era. The band is fictional.
