Roger McNamee well known Silicon Valley investor with a track record in spotting long term changes in business environments and making outstanding late-stage technology investments.

Bio

Roger began his career at T. Rowe Price, where he managed the top-ranked Science & Technology Fund. In 1991, he launched Integral Capital Partners, the first crossover fund (combining late stage venture capital with public market investment), a model which positioned his investors ideally for the roaring bull market of the 1990s. Anticipating the bear market bust, Roger co-founded Silver Lake Partners, the first private equity fund focused on technology business. Like the [T. Rowe Price] and [Integral funds], [Silver Lake] was the top performing fund of its time, and established a new model for private equity investment. Roger has recently launched Elevation Partners, an innovative partnership which applies the Silver Lake model to entertainment and media content.

Investment Industry

Described as legendary in the investment industry and a visionary in the technology industry, and as a multi-time entreprenuer, Roger has left his mark on the investment business. As a venture investor in Electronic Arts, Flextronics, Seagate and many others, he has also contributed to some of Silicon Valley’s greatest start-ups notably Intuit. In his new partnership, [Elevation], Roger’s partners with some of the most successful players in media and private equity: John Riccitiello, former president of videogame giant Electronic Arts; Fred Anderson, Apple Computer Inc.’s former finance chief; Bono, lead singer for U2 Bono; Bret Pearlman, senior managing director of the [Blackstone Group]; and Marc Bodnick, director of Silver Lake.

Frequent Speaker

Roger is a frequent speaker at industry and investor conferences. He is often a panelist at [Silicon Valleys Churchill Club] and a frequent commentator on technology investing on CNN, and other TV business news. In 2001, Roger was named to the “Ultimate Investment Club” by Money magazine for the third consecutive year and was recently featured as one of BusinessWeek’s “Voices of Innovation” and has been profiled in publications ranging from BusinessWeek to The New York Times to Fast Company to Fortune.

Author

Roger is author of The New Normal. The book was inspired to motivate many of his friends who lost a bundle in the dot com melt down. The book follows a theme similar to the world is flat but reflects much more on how we can shape personal productivity in the new normal http://www.thenewnormal.com/

Thrifty and Wired

Roger is also known for being thrifty, not buying flashy new cars, and driving the same Toyota Camry for years. He's also known for carrying multiple Blackberry type communication devices on his person to stay in touch with different business partners.

Charitable Contributions

Roger serves on the Board of Trustees of Bryn Mawr College and on the Board of Overseers of the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College. He holds a B.A. from Yale University and an M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.

Singer and Band
