Ron Evans AM (born July 7, 1939) is a former Australian rules footballer, and currently serves as the Chairman of the Australian Football League. He has held the position since 1998.

Football career

Evans was educated at Caulfield Grammar School in Melbourne, and played 64 games for the Essendon Football Club from 1958 to 1962. Evans played at 188cm and booted 210 goals for the Bombers, mostly playing at full-forward - he won the Coleman Medal for the VFL's leading goalkicker in 1959 and 1960. Evans also represented Victoria in State of Origin and later moved to Western Australia to play for the West Perth Football Club.

Business interests

Evans continued his connection to football in the business world, becoming the president of the Essendon Football Club in 1988.

He became a successful businessman in other areas, working as an executive for [Spotless], and later as the company's managing director from 1992 to 2004.

Today he is the chairman of the Australian Football League, the governing body of the elite competition in the sport of Australian rules football. On 12 June 2006, in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, he was made a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for service to business and Australian rules football.
