Ronak literally means "godlike wraith" in many native tongues of Southern India. Around 2000 B.C.E. the warrior-like inhabitants of Sri Lanka under the rule of King Irusha Samaratanga attacked mainland India. They were able to successfully annihilate all the great kingdoms of South India and were well expanding their territory into Northern India. They reigned for nearly a century, ruling over most of present day India, until a group of exiles under the leadership of Ronak attacked the island of Sri Lanka. After establishing a base in Sri Lanka, Ronak and his militia attacked South India and managed to fight off the Samaratanga-nites further north into the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. With the help of the northern Punjabi's, Ronak was able to banish Irusha to Sri Lanka, where he was to remain in exile.
The term Ronak became a title of prestige bestowed upon the nobility in India. Even today, there are groups of Ronak's and Irusha's that are just as segregated as in King Irusha's time. Irusha has become synonymous with the word devil for Ronak's. Today, many children are named Ronak after King Ronak.
Ronak also means light or illumination in Hindi.
Ronak or Rûnak (transliterated as Roonak) is also a Kurdish given name for females. It means illuminated in Kurdish.
