Rosedale is a city in Bolivar County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 2,414 at the 2000 census.
Geography
Rosedale is located at (33.853747, -91.026829)[Geographic references#1GR1].According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.2 km² (5.5 mi²). 14.1 km² (5.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (1.27%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census[Geographic references#2GR2] of 2000, there were 2,414 people, 780 households, and 567 families residing in the city. The population density was 171.6/km² (444.2/mi²). There were 842 housing units at an average density of 59.9/km² (154.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 16.86% White, 82.02% African American, 0.37% Asian, 0.17% from other races, and 0.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.75% of the population.There were 780 households out of which 38.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 29.2% were married couples living together, 37.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% were non-families. 24.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.99 and the average family size was 3.56.
In the city the population was spread out with 34.9% under the age of 18, 10.4% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 17.6% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 85.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $17,955, and the median income for a family was $18,810. Males had a median income of $24,922 versus $15,714 for females. The per capita income for the city was $8,534. About 43.3% of families and 46.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 58.6% of those under age 18 and 34.6% of those age 65 or over.
