Rouge is a commercially successful, Spice Girls-like Brazilian vocal group and girl band, formed in the first season of the reality show Popstars, broadcated by SBT in 2002. In four years of career, they achieved four Gold, three Platinum and one Diamond album in Brazil and released various hit singles, becoming the most successful Brazilian girl group of all time.
Biography
The goal of the first season (2002) of the show Popstars was to form a girl band. Many thousands of young adult women participated the first phase of the show, and, through tests, five girls were selected to form Rouge. In 2002, they released their debut selftitled album, which was tremendously successful and sold over a million copies in Brazil, receiving the Diamond certification. Their single "Ragatanga" was one of the most successful songs of a decade. That same year, Rouge released a remix album, which received little-to-no promotion.
Their sophomore album came in 2003, named C'est La Vie. The lead single, "Brilha La Luna", performed espetacularly on Brazilian charts, and was one of the biggest hits of the year. The album went 2x Platinum (500,000 copies sold). Luciana left the group after the release of C'est La Vie, due to personal reasons.
In 2004, when the public thought Rouge would break up, Blá Blá Blá was released. The title song was another national huge hit. Blá Blá Blá was certified Platinum (125,000 copies sold); although the album sold well, its sales are low in comparison to Rouge's previous albums.
The group released a greatest hits compilation, named Mil E Uma Noites, in 2005. The album featured six previously unreleased songs, featuring the hit song "Vem Habib (Wala Wala)", and went Gold (50,000 copies sold). Since then, any new material from Rouge was announced or released.
