The Royal Bank Building on King street West in Toronto, is one of a few of RBC Financial's offices in the downtown core. Construction on this building commenced with the laying of the corner stone by then Royal Bank of Canada Chairman James Allan in 1964. The 12 storey tower is home to RBC Financial.
Further east of King Street at Yonge is another Royal Bank building. This building was also called the Royal Bank Building. Built in 1914, it served as the bank's offices until the Royal Bank Plaza was completed in 1977.
The use of gold foil on the building's windows was famously referenced in the title of Walter Stewart's bestselling critique of Canadian banking, Towers of Gold, Feet of Clay.
