The Royal Dramatic Theatre or in Swedish Kungliga Dramatiska Teatern, colloquially known as Dramaten, is Sweden's national stage for the "spoken drama". Around one thousand shows are played yearly on the six scenes of the theatre.
The theatre has had its present location in the Art Nouveau building at Nybroplan in Stockholm since 1908. The building is a work by the architect Fredrik Lilljekvist. Famous artists like Carl Milles and Carl Larsson were involved in making the decorations.
The school of the theatre has produced many later famous actors and directors, including Gustaf Molander (who also taught there), Greta Garbo, Signe Hasso, Max von Sydow, Bibi Andersson and Lena Olin.
