Royal Rumble 1998 was the eleventh annual Royal Rumble professional wrestling pay-per-view event from the World Wrestling Federation. It took place on January 18, 1998 in the San Jose Arena located in San Jose, California.

Results

• Vader def. The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust (w/Luna Vachon)
• *Vader pinned TAFKA Goldust after hitting Goldust with a Vaderbomb while Luna was hanging on his back. (7:49)
• Six-Man Tag Team match with Special guest referee Sunny: Max Mini, Mosaic and Nova def. Battalion, El Torito and Tarantula
• *Max pinned Torito after hitting a top rope hurricanrana. (7:47)
• WWF Intercontinental Championship match: The Rock (c) def. Ken Shamrock
• *Ken Shamrock pinned The Rock after hitting a belly-to-belly suplex. However, after persuasion from The Rock, Shamrock was found in possession of brass knuckles in his trunks by the referee and Rock was given a disqualification win. (10:51)
• **The brass knuckles were actually placed in by The Rock after he hit Shamrock with them. However, the knuckles only gave Rock a two-count.
• World Tag Team Championship match: The Legion Of Doom (Hawk & Animal) def. The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg & Billy Gunn) (c)
• *The LOD won by disqualification when Road Dogg hit Animal with a steel chair while Animal pinned Billy Gunn. (7:54)
• **Hawk was handcuffed to the ring post by Road Dogg.
• "Stone Cold" Steve Austin won the 1998 Royal Rumble
• *The final two participants were "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and The Rock. Steve Austin won the Royal Rumble after giving The Rock a Stone Cold Stunner and eliminating him. (55:22)
• ** Mick Foley competed in the Royal Rumble match as all three of his aliases: Mankind, Dude Love, and Cactus Jack.
• **As The Rock made his entrance, Cactus Jack hit him with a garbage can. Cactus and Chainsaw Charlie then toss Rock around with the garbage can on top of him.
• **When Owen Hart came out, he was attacked from behind by Jeff Jarret and was thought to be unable to compete. However when Jarrett made his entrance, Owen returned and eliminated Jarrett.
• **The Honky Tonk Man came down on his entrance along with Triple H (on crutches) and Chyna. Triple H hit Owen Hart with the crutches and eliminated him.
• Casket match for the WWF Championship: Shawn Michaels (w/Triple H and Chyna) (c) def. The Undertaker
• *Shawn Michaels retained his championship when Kane chokeslammed Undertaker into the casket. (20:34)
• **During the match, Michaels took a back body drop to the outside, smashing his lower back on the casket causing him to herniate two disks and crushing one completely, leading to his four year hiatus as an active wrestler from WWE.
• **The New Age Outlaws and Los Boricuas interfered and attacked The Undertaker.
• **After the match, Kane and Paul Bearer padlocked the casket with Undertaker inside it. They then poured gasoline on the casket and set it on fire.

Trivia

• During the show, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was seen as a marked man with The Godwinns, Nation of Domination and Los Boricuas all trying to get him. Before the Royal Rumble match, it looked like Los Boricuas had attacked Austin with nobody entering at #22 but it turned out they attacked Skull (who was supposed to come out at that spot).
• Mike Tyson was in attendance at the show.
