Trivia
- The WWE European Championship was defended only once at a Royal Rumble event (1999). Since then, the European Champions appeared in the Royal Rumble match until 2002, the year in which it was retired: Val Venis in 2000, William Regal in 2001, and Christian in 2002. Also, the European Champion (Triple H) appeared at the 1998 Rumble match, but did not defend his title.
- 12 wrestlers made their first appearance in the Royal Rumble match: Vince McMahon, Droz, Edge, Gillberg, Dan Severn, Tiger Ali Singh, Blue Meanie, Gangrel, Al Snow, Test, Val Venis, and Chyna.
- Chyna became the first female participant in the Royal Rumble. As of 2006, she is also the only woman to participate in the Royal Rumble.
- Vince McMahon, who won the Royal Rumble at #2, would lose his WrestleMania XV WWF Championship shot at St. Valentine's Day Massacre to "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Rey Mysterio, who also won the Royal Rumble at #2 in 2006, would lose his WrestleMania 22 title shot later to Randy Orton. However, Mysterio would be added to the title match.
- This year's Rumble match was the only one to have the Light Heavyweight Champion (Gillberg) as a participant.
