Rumbelows
Encyclopedia : R : RU : RUM : Rumbelows
Rumbelows is a former UK electrical retail store that once rivalled Currys, Dixons and Comet.
For two seasons from 1990 to 1992 Rumbelows were the title sponsor of the English Football League Cup, a Professional football competition played in England.
The former Rumbelows shop in Whitechapel, Liverpool, now home to Ann Summers, was the heart of the Brian Epstein NEMS empire in the early 60s - manager of the Fab 4.
Thorn EMI, Rumbelows’ owner, decided to pull out of the electrical retail business in 1995 because of heavy losses, closing all of the Rumbelows stores and selling many of them to the German PC retailer Escom. Escom itself subsequently ceased trading in 1996 following financial difficulties.
