"Run to You" was the fourth single released from Whitney Houston's feature film debut soundtrack "The Bodyguard Soundtrack".

Song Information

The song "Run to You" was written by Jud Friedman and Allan Rich. Originally intended to be a break-up song, the song was approved by the production and stars. However, a month later, the director of "The Bodyguard" (Mick Jackson) called, saying he liked the song so much, but he'd rather have it be a love song. The entire song was rewritten except for the title. The production and stars loved the new version as well, finally setting a song for the movie.

Chart Information

All of the previous releases from The Bodyguard had been successes, landing in the Top Five. "Run to You" was expected to kept this trend up, but ultimately peaked at #31 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In the US, it spent 6 weeks in the Top 40. It hit #46 on the Hot 100 Singles Sales chart, most likely due to The Bodyguard Soundtrack already having been certified 8x platinum and nearing 9x platinum status quickly. However, the song cracked the Top 30 on the Hot 100 Airplay, peaking at #26.

On other Billboard charts, the song was moderately well received. On the R&B chart, it reached a peak position of #31. The song was able to crack the Top 10 on the Adult Contemporary, peaking at #10.

Internationally, the song was not received well, barely charting in any countries, except making a #15 peak in the UK and #72 in Australia.

The song "Run to You" was nominated for a 1994 Academy Award for Best Original Song, but did not win.

Music video

The video "Run to You" features scenes from The Bodyguard (like all of Houston's videos from the soundtrack), intercut with Houston running on clouds towards her lover. Due to Houston's hectic schedule and the little success of the single, the video is not one of her more famous ones.
