Biography

Grint is from Watton-at-Stone in Hertfordshire, England. He is the eldest of 5 children born to Nigel Grint (an ex-race car memorial dealer) and Jo Parsons (a homemaker).

Before being cast in Harry Potter, he had only appeared in plays for school and his local theatre group, Top Hat Stage School, such as Peter Pan and Rumplestiltskin. As a young child, he was once cast in a play based on the story of Noah's Ark, as a fish. He also frequently appeared as an audience plant at his father's amateur hypnotism shows for extra pocket money.[[Citing sources citation needed]]

In July 2004, Rupert left Richard Hale School, taking his GCSE examinations in among others, Art and German.

When not working, Rupert enjoys learning to ride the unicycle, riding quad bikes, drawing/sketching, golfing, playing in the pool, and playing the guitar. His favourite actors include Jim Carrey and Mike Myers as well as Lee Evans.

Career

A self-proclaimed fan of the Harry Potter book series, young Grint was interested in getting a role in the movie. He entered a video he made of himself rapping about the role of Harry Potter and at the age of 11, won the role of Potter's best friend, Ron Weasley. After completing the first Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (released in the United States as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), he appeared as Alan A. Allen in the British comedy film Thunderpants (2002). In 2002, 2004 and 2005, he again starred as Ron Weasley in the Potter sequels Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Also known for his radio and television voice-over work, he appeared as Nigel Molesworth of the Baggy Trousers series for BBC Radio 4, and voiced Peter Pan in a BBC documentary.

Marking his first foray from the comic-goofball-sidekick roles, Rupert will star in the coming of age story Driving Lessons with Laura Linney and Julie Walters, which is set for release in 2006. Filming took place from January 2005.
