SAVVIS, Inc. (NASDAQ: [SVVSD]; formerly SAVVIS Communications Corporation) provides managed technology infrastructure and content distribution services. These services are provided via a global tier 1 Internet backbone and 24 global data centers. Combining experience in web hosting services and digital media, SAVVIS has attracted over 5,000 business customers who rely on SAVVIS for the secure delivery of content, applications, and services.

It was founded in 1995 and was listed on NASDAQ in February 2000, posting operating losses for several years. In Q3 2005, the company turned a net profit of $2.3m.

It has expanded through a number of acquisitions. In 2002 it purchased Intel's web hosting operation. In 2004 it purchased the assets of the bankrupt Cable & Wireless America for $155 million in cash and assumed liabilities of approximately $12.5 million.

In May of 2005 the company changed its name from SAVVIS Communications Corp. to SAVVIS, Inc. as a reflection of the fact that with its expansion into managed IT services and content delivery systems it is now more than just a networking company.[link]

The current CEO, Philip J. Koen, replaced John Finlayson, President and acting CEO. John Finlayson was made acting CEO after former CEO Robert McCormick resigned in 2005 due to a lawsuit brought by American Express for $241,000 in charges to the Scores strip club on his credit card.

Mr. Koen was formerly president and COO of Equinix.
