Encyclopedia : S : SD : SDH : SDHD

SDHD, which stands for succinate dehydrogenase complex subunit D, is one of the two transmembrane subunits of the four-subunit succinate dehydrogenase protein complex of the mitochondrial-respiratory chain (electron transfer chain), where it is described as complex II, and as it also participates in the citric acid cycle, in this context it is simply referred to as succinate dehydrogenase. SDHD is a gene that, when mutated, causes familial paraganglioma. It is located on chromosome 11, at locus 11q23. Names previously used for SDHD were PGL and PGL1.
