SPF 7 is an improvisational comedy troupe based in San Francisco, California. The group originated in 2001 as the house improv troupe of the Seaside Repertory Theatre in Seaside, Florida. SPF 7 relocated to San Francisco in 2005 to work as the official improv troupe of the San Francisco Comedy College.
The troupe is made up of a group of trained actors, comedians, film makers, directors, and writers whose primary focus is the development and performance of original comedic formats using improvisation as the focal point. In more recent years, in addition to regularly improvised stage shows, the troupe has expanded into using improv as a development tool for a number of film and television projects.
Most notably, SPF 7 holds the world-record for the longest improvised show by a single troupe. In the summer of 2004, SPF 7 performed for a continual 70 hours in a show entitled SPF 70: Carnival of Insanity. In a prior summer, SPF 7 broke the then standing record (25 hours) by performing a 35 hour long show called The 35 Hour Show: Sleepless in Seaside.
