SR Z Class
Encyclopedia : S : SR : SRZ : SR Z Class
The Southern Railway Class Z was an 0-8-0 3-cylinder side tank engine intended for heavy shunting and was introduced in 1929. The boiler was fairly large but only had a pressure up to 180 lbf/in² (1.2 MPa).
There were only 8 examples of the class.
For some reason they were given regulators that worked in the opposite way to the norm, and this caused problems among crews that were unfamiliar with the design.
