The Saab 9-1 is a compact car expected to be introduced by Saab Automobile for the 2009 model year.[link] It will perhaps share its Delta architecture with the Opel Astra, or possibly using a stretched Corsa or using a newly developed platform. Saab intends to build the vehicle at their Trollhättan factory, but also other European GM factories have been mentioned. It will be the successor of the Saab 90 and Saab 99 and be the company's entry-level car as the 9-3 grows larger. It's intended to compete with BMW 1 Series, Volvo C30/S40 and Audi A3 - hatchback versions may be followed by sedan and station wagons, which may also appear for the 1 Series. A cabriolet might also be possible.
