Sagamihara (Japanese: 相模原市 -shi) is a city located in Kanagawa, Japan.
As of 2006, the city has an estimated population of 668,119 and the density of 2738 persons per km². The total area is 244.04 km².
The city gained a city status on November 20, 1954.
The main areas of commercial activity in Sagamihara are located around the train stations JR and Keio Hashimoto on the JR Yokohama line or the Keio Sagamihara line and JR Sagamihara, and Odakyu Sagami-Ōno on the Odakyu Odawara line.
Mergers
On March 20, 2006, Sagamihara merged with Tsukui and Sagamiko. The resulting city of Sagamihara consists of two geographically separate pieces as Fujino and Shiroyama elected to remain separate from the new city.External links
