Saida karoli

Encyclopedia : S : SA : SAI : Saida karoli

Saida Karoli, "the song bird of East Africa", is a well known traditionalist Tanzanian singer and performer. Staging live shows in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda Burundi and DRC, she has become well loved by a diversity of audiences for her unique fusion of the traditional and modern.

Born in 1976 in the northern Tanzanian province of Bukoba, she has attracted a good deal of attention in a short period of time. Maria Salome, a song off of Saida's first album reached number three in airplay on Tanzanian radio. She has entertained the Ugandan King, The Kabaka of Buganda, and is a high profile act at Zanzibar's Sauti Za Busara Festival. Most recently she was nominated for several honors at the Kora - All African Music Awards.

In style, Saida's music is described as natural with mellow vocals and hypnotically rhythmicism. Though she sings primarily in her native tongue Hiya, her lyrics also incorporate extensive Swahili (the more widely spoken East African Language) and the occasional turn of phrase in English. Her latest hit song is entitled "Mapenzi Kizunguzungu" which translates to "Dizzy Dizzy Love". She is managed by Mr. Felician Mutta, the CEO of FM Productions LTO.
