Sam Champion has been a weatherman for WABC-TV in New York City since 1988.
Prior to his weather forecasting career at WABC, he worked at WJKS (them WJWB, now WCWJ) in Jacksonville, Florida, during the mid '80s, during that stations ABC-NBC era. WJKS (then WJWB, now WCWJ) ended their affiliation with ABC, as well as ended their newscast product in 1996 to become a WB affilaite. September, 2006... WCWJ becomes a CW affiliate.
Champion occasionally appears on Live With Regis and Kelly, the daily talk show produced by WABC-TV; and CNN's Larry King Live.
Sam holds a B.A. in broadcast news from Eastern Kentucky University.
Despite his years of presenting the weather and appearing on Larry King Live as a weather expert, Champion is not a meteorologist.
In 2002, Champion, along with movie critic Frank De Caro, hosted the New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project's "Courage Awards." [link]
Champion is active in many of the New York area's charitable organizations. He has made an ongoing commitment to the Multiple Sclerosis Society as Grand Marshall of the Fall Bike Tour, the March of Dimes as chairman of the 25th annual NYC Walkamerica, and "Stopping AIDS Together," which is part of Sunday By the Bay, as master of ceremonies.
