Sanada clan
Encyclopedia : S : SA : SAN : Sanada clan
The Sanada clan of Shinano province were quite obscure in their past, but it may be known that the Sanada were related to the Uno clan. After the year of 1550, the Sanada clan moved in with a certain retainer family of the Takeda clan, so they themselves became retainers. However, after the Takeda were completely destroyed during the year of 1582, the Sanada became an independent force, fighting off many territorial attacks led by the Hojo. Following the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, many members of the Sanada fought on both sides during the battle. The Sanada acted this way to make sure at least one branch would be alive in the end if turned up on the winning side, so one branch did manage to survive to the Edo Period. However, the other one represented by Sanada Yukimura was destroyed following the Siege of Osaka in 1615.
