Saqqaq culture
Encyclopedia : S : SA : SAQ : Saqqaq culture
The Saqqaq culture (named after the settlement Saqqaq, the site of many archaeological finds) is the second earliest known civilization in Greenland. It existed from around 2500 BC until about 800 BC, primarily in southern Greenland. This culture coexisted with the Independence I culture of north Greenland (which developed around 2400 BCE and lasted until about 1300 BCE). After the Saqqaq culture disappeared, the Independence II culture of northern Greenland and the Early Dorset culture of the West Greenland emerged.
The Saqqaq culture came from Canada to western Greenland. The culture mysteriously disappeared as the climate turned colder.
