A Sarafan (Russian: сарафан, from Persian sеrāрā) is a traditional Russian long, wide, sleeveless dress worn as an overgarment.
Sarafans could be of single piece construction with shoulder staps, as well as of skirt plus corset construction with armholes.
Sarafans are still designed and worn today as a summer-time light dress. They can be worn during folk music and dance performances and are produced as souvenirs.
