Saskatchewan Communications Network

Encyclopedia : S : SA : SAS : Saskatchewan Communications Network

Saskatchewan Communications Network is a Saskatchewan public television educational channel owned by the Saskatchewan government. It is available on satellite (Bell ExpressVu Channel 266 and StarChoice Channel 352) and cable, but not over-the-air.

SCN was licensed by the CRTC as a non-commercial TV network in February 1991, and was launched on May 6 of that year, making it one of the newer English-language publicly-funded broadcasters in Canada. (TVOntario was launched on September 27, 1970 while Knowledge Network in British Columbia was launched on January 12, 1981. Alberta's Access Network was launched on June 30, 1973 and became a private broadcaster in the mid 1990s.)

SCN stops between shows to ask for pledges like other public broadcasters such as PBS.
