Located on Lake Michigan between Saugatuck, Michigan, and Holland, Michigan, Saugatuck Dunes State Park is a 1,120 acre (4.5 km²) day-use park featuring 14 miles (23 km) of hiking trails, some considered difficult, through scenic, stabilized and wooded sand dunes as well as two miles (3 km) of Lake Michigan beachfront, located a mile (1.6 km) from the parking lot and requiring a semi-strenuous walk to get there. There's a picnic area but no camping. A state park permit is required for entry.
Part of the property includes a now-closed state prison and a mansion dating back from an earlier period. These are not open to the public.
