Schneebergbahn

The Schneebergbahn is a rack railway leading from the small town of Puchberg in Lower Austria up to a pleateau beneath the Schneeberg, with 2076m the highest mountain of Lower Austria.
The line is about 10 km long and has a rail gauge of 1m (3ft 3 3/8in) and uses the Abt system to overcome a height difference of about 1200m. The Schneebergbahn began its operation in 1897. Although it was originally operated with steam locomotives, modern diesel locomotives have also been in operation since 1999.
