Score (album)
Encyclopedia : S : SC : SCO : Score (album)
SCORE is the upcoming album and DVD by progressive metal band Dream Theater. It will be a live album, recorded on April 1, 2006 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Parts of the album feature a complete symphonic orchestra, conducted by Jamshied Sharifi.
The album is slated to be released on August 29, 2006.
The name of the album comes from the word "score", meaning the number twenty. It was chosen in order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dream Theater. "Score" could also mean a conductor's musical score, parts of which are used on the packaging imagery.
In a [blog post] of July 15th, 2006 radio DJ/music television VJ Eddie Trunk commented that "Also, pay special attention to the bands "thank you's" to the crowd at the end of the night. Due to union fees at RCMH the band went 3 minutes past the 11PM curfew saying goodbye to the sell out crowd, costing them an extra $30,000! This strict union policy is the same reason why when I introed the band that night I had to do it from off the stage instead of on it". It is currently unknown who is responsible for covering the addition union fine - Dream Theater, Warner Music Group (formerly WEA - Warner/Elektra/Atlantic, the bands former label) or Rhino Records, a subsidiary of WMG who are releasing the DVD/CD under a single release contract as the band had fulfilled their past record contract with 2005's Octavarium.
