Scott Norton started out as a professional arm wrestler. He won over 30 championships during his days as an arm wrestler. His status in the arm wrestling world earned him a role in Sylvester Stallone's arm wrestling movie, Over the Top.Norton was trained to wrestle by the legendary Verne Gagne and started in 1989 in Gagne's American Wrestling Association. He sometimes teamed with John Nord as the "Yukon Lumberjacks". By the end of 1989, Norton went to the Pacific Northwest territory with Nord where he won the heavyweight title from Brian Adams.
In 1990, he wrestled for New Japan Pro Wrestling where he feuded with Rick and Scott Steiner with a variety of partners.
Norton returned to the U.S. and signed with WCW. The promoters first tried to get Norton over as a heel with the fans by feuding with Sting. The feud never captivated the fans and was scrapped.
During a WCW Saturday taping Norton squared off against the mammoth Ice Train. The bout ended in a double count out when both men clotheslined the other knocking each out. After the match the two shook hands and Norton explained to Tony Schiavone that he felt that they would make a formidible tag team. Thus, "Fire and Ice" was born. The finisher was seen as Norton power bombed his opponent followed by Train's leaping "Train Wreck" splash. They briefly feuded with The Steiner Bros. and came to a head at Great American Bash. The bout ended with The Steiner Bros. winning.
In late 1996, Norton joined the nWo and eventually formed a tag team with Buff Bagwell called Vicious & Delicious. They feuded with the Steiner brothers but never could win the tag team titles. During his nWo days, Norton travelled back and forth to NJPW to be a part of nWo Japan, where he would become New Japan's gaijin ace.
During his fabled career Norton teamed with Hercules Hernandez known as the "Jurassic Powers." The team held the IWGP World Tag Team titles.
On March 17, 2001 Norton defeated Kensuke Sasaki in Nagoya, Japan to capture the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. He is one of only five Americans ever to hold the title along with Hulk Hogan, Vader, Bob Sapp and most recently Brock Lesnar. Since 1999, he has wrestled in NJPW and was part of Masahiro Chono's "Team 2000" before temporarily retiring in 2004.
