For the Redeemers member Scream, see Angar the Screamer.
Scream is a supervillain (and later anti-hero) from the Spider-Man comic books. She is one of the six 'children' of Venom. Scream is the first female symbiote in the Marvel Universe. Her human counterpart's name is Donna, and in human form she bears a striking resemblance to Mary Jane Watson. She has five symbiote brothers and sisters, including Carnage and a nephew in Toxin.

Scream is one of the five Life Foundation Symbiotes that were forcefully spawned from the Venom symbiote. She was the unofficial leader of the Life Foundation Symbiotes. Like the other LF symbiotes, she was a volunteer for the Life Foundation Organization, an organization that was preparing for the M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Destruction) fallout of the Cold War and provide a comfortable life for their wealthy clients after the impending nuclear holocaust. The Life Foundation was experimenting with the Venom symbiote in the hopes of making supercops to watch over their imagined fallout shelter utopia. She was picked from the organization's security force made up of cops, soldiers, and mercenaries.

In Scream's first appearance, she runs into Spider-Man while testing her powers by terrorizing a shopping mall near Salinas, California. Spider-Man was able to easily defeat her due to her inexperience. Scream escaped by radioing back to the Life Foundation, who returned to pick her up in a hovercraft.

Unbeknownst to her, Spider-Man had hitched a ride on that same hovercraft and once inside ended up helping Eddie Brock (who was being held prisoner there) escape and rebond with his symbiote. Scream and the other guardian symbiotes then tangled with Spider-Man and Venom, but they were defeated when Venom used the same machine that had helped to create the Life Foundation symbiotes. The age-accelerating machine apparently made Scream and the other guardians' symbiotes turn to dust. Venom and Spider-Man escaped and the Life Foundation blew up the building to eliminate any incriminating evidence.

Later it is revealed that Scream and her "siblings" survived and the Life Foundation was able to save them and their symbiotes, but for some reason, the Guardians had had a falling out with their previous employers and now were fugitives on the run, struggling to remain in control of their symbiotes. Scream led the others to New York City in search of Venom, hoping that he would help teach them how to control their symbiotes. Venom, however, wanted nothing to do with helping them and instead thought they all should die, assuming that they would all end up being just as bad as Carnage. Scream and Venom fought until the Scarlet Spider showed up and knocked Venom into the river, while Venom dragged Scream down with him. Scream lost Venom after they fought in the river. Desperate, Scream approached the Scarlet Spider hoping he would help her track down Venom. When he refused, Scream experienced a psychotic break and began a rampage in Times Square. This drew the attention of Venom and they ended up fighting again. This time, Venom, being the more experienced, overpowered her, began tearing her symbiote off of her and beating Scream within an inch of her life. She was saved at the last moment by the Scarlet Spider who defeated Venom. Brock was re-incarcerated and separated from his symbiote.

Undiscouraged, Scream rounded up her "siblings" and broke Eddie Brock out of prison, kidnapping him and imprisoning him in a Chicago warehouse. She once again asked for his help in learning to communicate with the symbiotes. Eddie once again refused and tried to kill them all - even though he was without his symbiote - and then managed to escape. Then, the Life Foundation symbiotes began to be murdered one by one. Scream helped lead them to believe that Eddie Brock was the killer, while in fact, it had been her the entire time. She had come to the conclusion that all symbiotes are evil "and we're evil for bonding with them so we all have to die." (Her turning against her former team and subsequent quote somewhat resembles that of the Bride in Kill Bill).

It is revealed that she was insane and had been hearing voices long before she became host to her "other" (suggesting that she was schizophrenic.) Scream killed all her siblings, Eddie rebonded with his symbiote and became Venom once more, and Scream and Venom fought again. In the end Venom knocked her out and then escaped and Scream was captured by the authorities.

Scream continued to reprise her role as sociopath in the Spider-Man and Venom titles throughout the 1990s. Like her "father," she is very driven in her goals, eventually believing that all symbiotes are evil, and that she and all the others were evil for bonding with them and that they all had to die. It was her mission to kill all the others and then take her own life. It was typically Venom who was her target.

In her later appearances she had become more stable, coming to terms with who and what she is and was trying to atone for her past mistakes by helping other humans who now play host to alien symbiotes (left over from the Planet of the Symbiotes storyline). Like her "father," she had gone from villain to antihero.

Donna is never referred to as Scream in the comics, but is named as Scream in her appearance in the video game, .

Recently, Donna had busied herself tracking down and helping benevolent symbiotic survivors from the symbiote invasion of earth. After many of the symbiotes (and their human hosts) were murdered, Donna tracked the monstrous Xenophage, a huge alien monster that devours both symbiotes and the brains of their hosts. Donna assisted Venom in slaying the beast, but was gravely injured.

Scream's final appearance to date was where she sought the Xenophage's ship to help her track down more of the symbiotic survivors. The ship transported her and others (including Venom and Wolverine) into another dimension where Scream was nearly killed once again by the villainous mutant Dirt Nap. Upon her successful return to earth, she disappeared, presumably to continue her search for the few remaining symbiotes.

Powers and abilities

Donna's superhuman abilities originally emanate from the alien symbiote. The creature can mimic clothing and camouflage the host. Scream often uses her 'hair' as a weapon, to wrap or tangle enemies, much like Medusa of the Inhumans. Like Spider-man and Venom, Scream has wall-crawling and webslinging abilities, and a early warning sense. She can lift around 30-35 tons.
