Script

Encyclopedia : S : SC : SCR : Script

SCRIPT is an IBM text formatter developed in the 1980s, used for printing documents in the first laser printers. It was a predecessor to the widely-deployed PostScript known today, and the LaTeX language. It was generated from GML (Generalized Markup Language), itself a predecessor to SGML.

Both Script and GML were part of IBM's Document Composition Facility (DCF), used in the System/370 platform.
