|} The Sculptor Galaxy (NGC 253, nicknamed Silver Coin Galaxy) is a barred spiral galaxy and the brightest member in the Sculptor group of galaxies. It is also one of the brightest galaxies beyond the Local Group. The galaxy was discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1783. The Sculptor Galaxy is a starburst galaxy, meaning it is currently experiencing a period of intense star formation. Despite this, so far only one supernova (SN 1940E) has been observed in the galaxy.[link] It is also famous being very dusty. External links
