"Sea Wort grass and other sea grasses"
This phrase appears in several web sites besides Wikipedia. However, “sea wort grass” is not a common name for any plant in the British Isles.
Two pioneer grasses that may be found with Ammophila arenaria (marram grass) on British dune systems are Elytrigia juncea (sand couch) and Leymus arenarius (lyme grass).
Other plants which will commonly be found as pioneers on sand dunes are Salsola kali (saltwort) Honkenya peploides (sea sandwort) and Cakile maritima (sea rocket).
The term “sea grass” in Britain generally refers to the different species of Zostera. These are not members of the Poaceae (grass family) at all; they are plants of the littoral or sublittoral zone.
Use of the scientific (Latin) names for plants is recommended to avoid these ambiguities.
