Seatallan

Encyclopedia : S : SE : SEA : Seatallan

Seatallan is a mountain in the western part of the English Lake District. It is rounded, grassy and fairly unassuming, occupying a large amount of land with not many interesting features. However, it is a Marilyn because of the low elevation of the col connecting it to Haycock, its NHN to the north. It is not a good viewpoint, despite being a Marilyn (they are usually good viewpoints); the view is restricted to the higher fells around Wasdale. The most interesting feature is the 400-feet rampart of crags on the southern edge overlooking Wast Water. These crags are a separate Wainwright (Buckbarrow) despite not having any prominence at all!

The name Seatallan is believed to have a Cumbric origin, meaning "Aleyn's high pasture".
