Encyclopedia : S : SE : SEC : Second Battle of Ream's Station

The Second Battle of Ream's Station was fought in the American Civil War on August 25, 1864, in Dinwiddie County, Virginia.

On August 24, the Union II Corps moved south along the Weldon Railroad, tearing up track, preceded by David McM. Gregg’s cavalry division. On August 25, Confederate Maj. Gen. Henry Heth attacked and overran the faulty Union position at Ream’s Station, capturing nine guns, twelve colors, and many prisoners. II Corps commander Maj. Gen. Winfield Scott Hancock withdrew to the main Union line near the Jerusalem Plank Road, bemoaning his shattered corps and the declining combat effectiveness of his troops.
