Selamawi Haileab Asgedom or Mawi Asgedom for short, is an author and a refugee from Ethiopia and Eritrea, whose mother braved dangers to bring her family to a better home. It was by a lot of chance that he were able to come to the United States with his parents and three siblings. Mawi grew up with the Chicago metro area of Wheaton, Illinois. Mawi graduated with top honors from Harvard and created a goal-setting program for teens called "The Code".

He is very popular with middle schools, as he likes to get them to participate.

His autobiography, Of Beatles and Angels was selected by Springfield, Pennsylvania as their community book, and 2378 people read it there.
