Servus (Hungarian: Szervusz, Polish: Serwus, German: Servus) is a salute, which has its origins in the Latin word for servant (Servus). It is used in former Austro-Hungarian Empire, especially in Austria, Hungary, Transylvania (part of Romania), and in Germany and Poland. The phrase is an ellipsis meaning, "I am your servant" or "At your service". It is also used in Bavaria and Austria as a way of saying "hello".
