Initially the servers, both game server and login server, were unstable. Logging in was not easy, giving the accountholders a wide range of error messages. Once in the game, problems with the game exe-file caused people to crash out after 3-20 minutes of gameplay.
During the first days after the servers opened, the only way to get information was through IRC channels. The game homepage and forum were not updated at all.
Several weeks into the Settlers of Ganareth new login errors began to occur which is referred to as the: "Benny Hill Login Error" or BHLE. This error is a constant loop of the server connection issues that the players now enjoy. This problem has caused players to be unable to access the game for most of the testing time, even though there were no player cap limits; this caused great annoyance throughout the forums and the IRC channel/ However, when the game is able to be played it runs smoother than before, besides when the monsters stop despawning due to server related issues causing server reboots to occur, followed by the BHLE to occur. No one is sure if this is an error they are attempting to fix or just a way to buy extra maintenance time...

Settlers of Ganareth is a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game that is being developed by NP Cube (aka NP³). The product was advertised as being a stand alone game as a prelude to Dark and light but was/is really simply the unfinished version of Dark and Light which was sold for $60 as a pre order which was billed in full up front, although there was a "lottery" that forum members could enter for a chance at a free SoG account. Many critics proclaim Dark and Light as the largest fiasco in MMORPG history with extremely suspect business practices.
