The seven-month itch is a smaller version of the seven-year itch. While the seven-year itch pertains to marriage [link] [link], the seven-month itch has to do with relationships in which a couple is dating. Much of the knowledge of the seven-year itch can be applied to the seven-month itch.

The seven-month itch, while not occurring exactly at the seven-month mark of a relationship, does tend to occur somewhere around that time, sometimes taking place shortly after or before the mark. It is at this point in the relationship that a couple finds that it is reaching a deeper level of intimacy and is moving out of the "passion" zone, where the focus has been getting to know this person, and fooling around. They are no longer some new and interesting thing as it were. The couple begins to find themselves questioning whether or not the relationship should end (at which point the cycle will eventually repeat when a new relationship reaches the seven-month itch) or continue on to be a "serious" relationship, or at the very least, a more serious relationship than it currently is. One given reason for the change in heart is that either one or both people might be finding themselves with an urge to stray away from their partner.
