All five of the District's schools are "Nationally Recognized Schools of Excellence".
The schools are fed from separate elementary school districts in the various communities, each having their own board of education.
History
The Sewanhaka Central High School district was created in or around 1929 with the building of Sewanhaka High School. In the 1950's and 1960's the additional high schools were build to accommodate the growing population.
Famous Alumni include longtime NFL Quarterback Vinny Testaverde, Olympic Discus Champion Al Oerter, and actor Telly Savalas (Kojak)
