Shahr-i Sokhta

-->Shahr-i Sokhta or Shahr-e Sukhteh (literally Burnt City) is a Bronze Age urban settlement in the southeast of Iran, in Sistan. Shar-e Sukhteh is located on the bank of the Helmand River and beside the Zahedan-Zabol road.
The oldest known backgammon and the oldest known caraway seed together with numerous metallurgical finds (e.g. slag and crucible pieces) are among the finds which have been unearthed by archaeological excavations from this site. The site has been excavated by Italian and Iranian archaeological teams in 70's and 80's.
