Shanghai Airlines is an airline based in the People's Republic of China established in 1985.
In 2005, the airline launched codeshare flight with Lufthansa to Germany from Shanghai.
In 2006, the airline has signed an agreement to codeshare with United Airlines on flights between China and the United States.
On 10 May 2006 it was announced that Shanghai Airlines will become the 19th member of Star Alliance.
The airline is planning to launch a joint-venture cargo airline, Shanghai Airlines Cargo, with Taiwan-based EVA Air.
