-->Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay (Bangla: শরত্চন্দ্র চট্টোপাধ্যায় Shôrotchôndro Chôţţopaddhae), also known as Sharat Chandra Chatterjee (15 September, 1876 - 16 January, 1938) was a popular Bengali novelist of early 20th century India.
He was considered the most popular novelist and story-teller of Bengali after Rabindranth Tagore, where Nazrul is second in poetry.

Background
He was born at Devanandapur, Hooghly, India and received his education in the city of Bhagalpur. His work represented rural Bengali society and he often wrote against social superstitions, malpractice and oppression. A fine arts student, Sharat Chandra left his student life behind because of poverty. For a short period, he was a sanyashi, a Hindu ascetic who abandons the material and social worlds.He died in Kolkata of liver cancer in 1938.

The first published story was, 'Mandir'. Was famous since 'Barodidi' was printed in 1907 in 'Varoti'.In his short stories, most of which were written by young Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay, a devastateting writer is absent. These works are not as bright as he was.
