Encyclopedia : S : SH : SHI : Shiba clan
The Shiba clan were descendants of the Minamoto clan. The Shiba were a very influential Shugo family during the Muromachi Period. The Owari and Echizen provinces were counted among the holdings of the Shiba clan. The shiba failed in the transition to sengoku-daimyo, along with losing the Echizen province to that of the Asakura around the year of 1470. During the year of 1550, the Shiba were then represented by Shiba Yoshimune, being a figurehead behind a certain branch that was rules by the Oda. When Yoshimune ended up getting killed during the year of 1544, the Shiba effectively came to an end.
