Shimon Agranat

Shimon Agranat (1906 - 1992) was the President of the Supreme Court of Israel from 1965 until 1976.
Early life
Agranat was born to a Zionist family in Louisville, Kentucky in 1906. He attended the University of Chicago and later its law school. Agranat emigrated to Palestine in 1930 and settled in Haifa.Judicial Career
In 1949, following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, during which Israel gained its independence, Agranat was appointed to the Israeli Supreme Court. By seniority, he became its President in 1965, before retiring in 1976 (at the mandatory retirement age of 70).Agranat Commission
During 1974, he led the Agranat Commission, which investigated the circumstances around which Israel entered the Yom Kippur War.
